My first close enounter with death
A very vivid memory I have is the time I nearly choked to death from a Caramel cube. It was a normal routine visit to the chiropractor. My family and I have been going to the same one ever since I can remember. Dr. Tutle( The Chiropractor) was always nice to talk to when we went to our regular visits. He'd always ask my brother's and me how school was going, or how sports were going. I always felt safe there, even though what Dr. Tutle was doing was fixing our backs and necks, and they always made loud popping noises. We got done with our normal visit. Usually when my mom was going to pay they would have stickers that they would give younger kids. They also had a little basket of candy like mints or caramel squares that you could take on your way out. My mom took a caramel square, so of course I took one as well. I took the piece of candy out of the wrapping paper and popped the candy in my mouth. It was hard like a mint so you had to suck on it. I being a child at the time wanted to eat it right away, so I was kind of chewing on it, which was a horrible idea. I chewed on it too hard and swallowed the candy, only problem is my throat was too small to have the thing go right down. I began to choke and the candy. It was like time slowed down, I just felt like that moment lasted a lifetime. Some crazy miracle, Dr. Tutle saw me choking or heard that I was, because I swing my head toward the door to the building and I see him rushing over to me with a cup of water in his hand. He handed me the water and I downed the cup of water like I have been stranded in the middle of the desert for days. Thankfully it helped the candy go down my throat, and all was fine. all that was left were two relieved parents, and one crying child. This was honestly my first encounter with death. Flash forward 12 years, to my freshmen year. My friend and I were going to his house to hang out and play videogames. We had just left a team meal for the wrestling team, which our parents ran that night. It had been raining and the roads were a little slippery. On our way back to his house, his truck got out of control and slipped into the other lane. He had to correct or else we would've hit a car head on. When he did that, it made the truck go into a spinning frenzy and he had lost all of control of the car. The one thing that stopped the car was a tree on the side of the road. Long story short no one was hurt, except the truck of course. The crazy thing was that if the truck hit tree a little more toward the front of it, my friend could've easily been extremely hurt or worse. The point for these stories were to kind of show one of the greatest lessons I have been taught. And it is that life is too short, anything could happen to make it end in a blink of an eye. So cherish it.
